The junior from St. Augustine, who came into Tuesday night’s game against the rival Florida Gators as Florida State’s leader in batting average, slugging percentage, doubles and RBIs, delivered perhaps his biggest hit of the season.

With the score tied at 4-4 and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lodise blasted the first pitch he saw over the right-field fence for a walk-off grand slam.

The homer not only gave FSU an 8-4 victory, but it completed the cycle for Lodise at the plate, as he had delivered a single, double and triple earlier in the game.

The win pushed No. 4 Florida State’s record to 21-3 on the season, while UF fell to 18-9. It also avenged a 7-2 loss for the Seminoles in Tallahassee earlier this month; the rivals will play their final game against each other in Gainesville on April 8.

Lodise’s grand slam capped off a wild ninth inning that saw the Gators rally from a 3-2 deficit with two outs and actually claim their first lead of the night, 4-3, with back-to-back RBI singles.

Florida State then took advantage of two walks and a hit batter to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, and the Seminoles tied it with an infield single by leadoff batter Gage Harrelson. One pitch later, Lodise went opposite field for the no-doubt grand slam in front of his hometown crowd.

It was the first cycle of Lodise’s college career and the first for a Seminole since 2019.

For the first eight innings, three FSU pitchers — John Abraham, Joe Charles and Chris Knier — limited the Gators to two runs on just one hit.

After Lodise doubled and scored in the first inning to give Florida State an early 1-0 advantage, UF responded with a run in the third when Ty Evans singled, stole second and advanced home on a pair of wild pitches.

The Seminoles then surged back in front one inning later when Myles Bailey walked and scored on a two-run homer from Brody DeLamielleure. Florida’s only other run came on three walks and a hit-by-pitch in the sixth.

FSU’s pitchers struck out 11 Gator batters, but also walked six and hit two others. UF’s pitchers, meanwhile, recorded 14 strikeouts with just five walks, but they also surrendered eight earned runs on eight hits — four for extra bases.

Lodise went 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored; four other Seminoles recorded one hit apiece.

Hudson Rowan, who recorded a strikeout to end UF’s rally in the top of the ninth, was credited with the win on the mound.

Next up for FSU will be a three-game series at Notre Dame, starting this Friday.
