For the second straight week, one of FSU’s top running back targets for the 2026 class — four-star Marianna product Amari Clemons — was back on campus for a Junior Day.

The only difference this time was that Clemons had a few special visitors with him.

“Great time. Had to show my mom around campus, so it was a good experience for her. This visit wasn’t all about me. It was all about my mom, my siblings and getting them here and getting to see what I see. That’s what it was. They liked it, they loved it. …

“They liked the experience, seeing the fields, weight rooms, treatment. They got to see everything they needed to see. I think it was a great experience for all of them.”

Clemons said this is the first campus visit his mother has made, and she got the chance to speak one-on-one with FSU head coach Mike Norvell.

“They had a good little talk in the office,” the four-star running back said.

Here are more highlights from Clemons’ chat with Warchant and other media following Saturday’s visit:

On FSU’s proximity to Marianna being an attraction: “Florida State is so close to home, and I think that means a lot. I would say playing in your own backyard is not a bad idea. I think it is comfortable where she doesn’t have to worry about me being six hours away. She can see me when she wants to see me.”

On his comfort level with FSU: “I would say every time I come to Florida State, it doesn’t feel like a recruiting process here. It feels like I’m comfortable. I’m dressing comfortable. (Looking down at his wardrobe) I got a jacket, sweatpants, crocs. Usually, I have tennis shoes, look presentable. But I just come here when I wake up.”

Why he likes FSU RBs coach David Johnson: “‘Coach YAC’ sends running backs to the league. I’m not saying others don’t. He tells me the truth, tells me what I don’t want to hear, and he keeps it real with me. And I think that’s a lot.

Is FSU his No. 1 school? “I would not say No. 1, but I love Florida State. I would not say there’s a No. 1 or a Top 5, but I have schools that I can see myself playing at, and FSU is one of them.”

Mike’s Analysis:

This was another important step in FSU’s recruitment of Clemons. Even though he didn’t name the Seminoles his No. 1 school again, I still feel like they are in a strong position here. He loves the FSU staff, the location is ideal, and he likes how the Seminoles use their running backs.

The next step is Clemons coming back for a spring visit to see the new FSU offense in person. He also confirmed Saturday that he plans to take an official visit to Florida State in the summer. Florida, Auburn and South Carolina are all strongly involved here, but I feel the ‘Noles are in a solid spot.
