Two-sport star Micahi Danzy blazes 5th-fastest 400 time in FSU history
Spring football practice is still more than a month away, but new Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn might be excited by what running back Micahi Danzy did this weekend.
Danzy, a freshman who also is a member of the Seminoles’ track and field program, turned in a blazing time in the 400 meters on Saturday during a meet at Louisville, Ky.
The Tallahassee native finished second in the 400 with a time of 46.34 seconds. That was just .04 seconds off of the winning time, and it tied for the fifth-fastest performance in Florida State school history.
As impressive as the performance was for a freshman in one of his first college meets, the Tallahassee native took it in stride.
“It definitely felt good, but I expected to hit it,” Danzy said in a short interview posted by FSU. “There’s a lot more to come.”
Two weeks ago, Danzy was named ACC Rookie of the Week for his performance on the Seminoles’ 4-by-400 relay team, which placed second in a meet at Clemson. In that race, he posted a 45.11 split while running the third leg.

That could be great news for the Florida State track and football teams.
On the gridiron, Danzy was a four-star prospect who was rated the No. 7 “athlete” nationally in the 2024 recruiting class. He saw limited playing time as a freshman this past fall, but his speed was certainly evident during his one pass reception — a 38-yarder against Charleston Southern.
While the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder will be part of a very deep Florida State running back room in 2025, his breakaway speed could be an attractive option for Malzahn. The Seminoles’ new offensive coordinator, who previously served as head coach at UCF and Auburn, is tasked with turning around one of the worst offenses in college football.
Florida State averaged just 15.4 points per game in 2024 — only three teams performed worse — and the Seminoles generated just seven rushes of 20-plus yards. Only four teams had less.
