UCF transfer Darin Green Jr. shows off shooting prowess in FSU Basketball exhibition wins
Florida State men’s basketball fans won’t get to see the 2022-23 Seminoles in action for another three months, but if their 10-day Canada tour was any indication, they may be well worth the wait.
Not only did several of FSU’s returning players perform well in three exhibition victories, capped off by a 90-74 victory against McGill University on Wednesday night, but some of the newcomers also put on a show.
Former UCF sharp-shooter Darin Green Jr. was particularly impressive in the Seminoles’ final two victories. He led the team with 25 points in Wednesday’s win and had 21 in the game before that — a 98-64 victory over the University of Carleton.

Green, who led UCF in scoring last season with 13.3 points per game, connected on five 3-pointers in each of the past two games. He was 5-of-10 from long range on Wednesday, 5-of-13 in the game before that, and 3-of-7 in the opener. So he connected on 13-of-30 during the trip, which is an impressive 43.3 percent.
The 6-foot, 5-inch junior, who still has two years of eligibility remaining, scored 18 points in the first half Wednesday. He averaged 20.3 points in the three games.
FSU got another strong performance from transfer Jaylan Gainey, a 6-10 senior from Brown University. Gainey recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds; he also blocked two shots while playing just 19 minutes.

Junior guard Caleb Mills scored 14 points on Wednesday after pouring in 24 in the second game of the tour.
Newcomers Chandler Jackson, Cameron Corhen and Tom House had notable performances Wednesday as well. Jackson hit all three of his shots from the field and also grabbed four rebounds; Corhen didn’t shoot well from the field (2-for-9), but he recorded four steals and three rebounds; and House went 3-for-3 from 3-point range to score nine points.
Jackson is a freshman guard from Memphis, Corhen is a freshman forward from Texas, and House is a freshman guard from Ohio. The Seminoles’ other newcomers did not play for various reasons.
FSU won all three of its games in Canada, and after soon returning to Tallahassee, the Seminoles will continue preparing for a Nov. 7 season opener against visiting Stetson.
