Veteran Florida State linebacker DJ Lundy, who was a frontrunner to claim a starting job in 2024, officially entered his name into the transfer portal on Monday morning.
The move comes nearly a week after he originally announced his intentions on social media.
Lundy played in all 13 games for the Seminoles in 2023, becoming a key force in the linebacker rotation. Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller even referred to him many times as his third starting linebacker, even though FSU typically operates with two linebackers in a 4-2-5 system.
Overall on the year, Lundy had 54 tackles, six for loss and two sacks. He also had a crucial interception against Boston College early in the season.
The redshirt junior was also used on offense a few times each season, primarily as a blocking fullback in goal-line situations. However, right after his interception against Boston College, he was given the ball on the 1-yard line to punch it in for six points.

Lundy was a late addition to FSU’s 2020 recruiting class as he didn’t commit until February of that year. He came to Florida State as a three-star prospect from Irwin County High School in Ocilla, Ga.
With the departures of senior linebackers Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune, Lundy was expected to take over a starting role on the defense in 2024.
