Veteran FSU linebacker DJ Lundy seeks NCAA waiver to play in 2025
The original plan for Florida State linebacker DJ Lundy after the 2024 season was to enter the NFL Draft due to his college eligibility expiring. However, the former FSU starter confirmed to Warchant on Thursday he has actually applied for a waiver to the NCAA and hopes to play college football in 2025.
Lundy has been at Florida State since 2020, playing in every season and never taking a redshirt. But the 2020 season does not count against college eligibility because of the COVID pandemic, and Lundy was lost in the fifth game of 2024 due to injury.
NCAA rules allow football players to take a redshirt if they only play in four games, which is why Lundy would need an NCAA waiver. It is not known how likely that is.
Lundy was thought to be a big keep for Florida State going into the 2024 season. The South Georgia product originally entered the transfer portal and committed to Colorado before withdrawing his name and returning to FSU for the 2024 season.

Prior to getting hurt, Lundy had 25 total tackles, one for loss and a pass deflection in 2024. However, 2023 was his best season, when he had 47 total tackles, five for loss, a sack, four pass deflections, an interception and even a touchdown on offense.
The 6-foot-1, 241-pound linebacker played in at least 11 games in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
If the waiver is granted, Lundy could add to an already deep Florida State linebacker room with the portal additions of Stefon Thompson, Elijah Herring and Caleb LaValle, as well as experienced returners Omar Graham, Justin Cryer and Blake Nichelson.
But he also could be free to finish his career elsewhere.
