Three years after coming to Florida State with an intriguing combination of size and speed, wide receiver Deuce Spann’s time with the Seminoles has apparently come to an end.

The senior wideout has decided to enter the transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

After beginning his college career as a quarterback at Illinois, Spann made the move to receiver at the Big Ten school and then transferred to Florida State before the 2022 season. Though inexperienced at the position, Spann’s combination of size (6-foot-4, 208 pounds) and excellent speed had the Seminoles very excited for his potential.

Spann caught eight passes for 64 yards that first season in Tallahassee, then contributed in a number of ways in 2023. His biggest play was a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Duke, but he also threw an important pass in FSU’s win over LSU and finished the year with 318 all-purpose yards.

The St. Petersburg native seemed to fall out of Florida State’s plans in 2024, however. He played sparingly in four games early in the season and then spent the rest of the year on the scout team.

Because he only played in four games this season, Spann was able to preserve this year of eligibility and will be able to play one final season at another school.
