Walk-off win in the 12th for Florida State Baseball; Seminoles outlast Pitt, 3-2
Jordan Carrion picked the perfect time to record his first and only hit of the night for the Florida State baseball team.
The junior shortstop slapped an RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the 12th inning Friday night to give the Seminoles a 3-2 victory over visiting Pitt.
It was Carrion’s first hit of the night in six at-bats, and it came after Pitt’s coaching staff issued an intentional walk to outfielder Jaime Ferrer to load the bases with no outs.
With Pitt playing with five infielders and only two outfielders — in an effort to cut down the winning run at home — Carrion’s single found a perfect hole between two Panthers defenders to drive in the winning run.
The victory improves Florida State’s record to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, while Pitt falls to 7-7 and 0-1.
And it came on a night when Florida State’s pitchers combined to strike out 18 Pitt batters. Starter Jackson Baumeister struck out nine in 5.0 innings, while reliever Conner Whiitaker added nine more in 5 1/3 innings.

After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth inning, the Seminoles reclaimed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cade Bush drove catcher Colton Vincent in from second base with a single to right field, then Bush scored on an RBI double by senior Nander De Sedas.

Pitt would end up tying the game in the eighth with two singles and a groundout. Then the two teams went scoreless until the bottom of the 12th.
The Panthers actually threatened in each of the final two innings, but Florida State ended both frames with double plays. Then freshman Cam Smith got the Seminoles going in the 12th with a leadoff single, and Tibbs followed that with a single of his own.
With runners on the corners and no outs, Pitt walked Ferrer to set up the force at any base. But Carrion came through with the game-winning hit.
Freshman left-hander Jamie Arnold earned the win by coaxing the double-play ball to end Pitt’s threat in the top of the 12th.
