No. 5 Florida State (5-0, 3-0) prevailed in its ACC home opener 39-17 over Virginia Tech (2-4, 1-1) on Saturday afternoon.

Afterwards, FSU head coach Mike Norvell praised the strong start from the team in jumping out to a 22-0 lead and the resiliency following Virginia Tech’s kickoff return for touchdown to start the second half. It was the first such touchdown Florida State surrendered since 2004.

“You saw tremendous response in our football team (two plays later),” said Norvell. “Defense doesn’t give up a point in the second half and I was really proud of them for that.”

RB Trey Benson rushed for 200 yards on only 11 carries, the first 200 yard individual rushing performance by a Florida State back since Dalvin Cook vs. Syracuse in 2016 (225).
