Warchant TV: How aggressive should Florida State be with Mike Norvell contract raise, extension?
With Florida State coming off of the school’s first 10-win season since 2016, the university’s administration is in the process of negotiating a raise and contract extension with head coach Mike Norvell, sources tell Warchant.com.
Norvell’s original contract, when he was hired in December 2019, called for him to make $3.75 million his first year, $4 million his second year and then escalate to $5 million in each of his fifth and sixth years. An additional year was added for the 2026 season last December, and that will call for him to make closer to $7 million — which is about what Florida coach Billy Napier made in the first year of his seven-year contract.
With Norvell defeating both UF and Miami this season — UM coach Mario Cristobal reportedly makes $8 million per year — will the Seminoles give Norvell a raise closer to what the other “Big Three” coaches in the state are making?

That seems likely, but there are other factors to consider: The length and total value of the contract, what the school would have to pay to buy him out without cause in future years, and what another school would have to pay FSU to hire him away.
In this Warchant TV Hot Topics discussion, our panel of Gene Williams, Jeff Cameron and Ira Schoffel discuss this topic and offer their thoughts on how Florida State should handle rewarding Norvell while also being responsible with the school’s resources.
