Florida State coaching staff reflects, refocuses for upcoming opponent

On Monday, Mike Norvell relived the standout moments from the 41-16 Florida State win over Wake Forest during his weekly press conference. Norvell highlighted the continued growth of Deuce Spann in the return game, the negative plays generated on defense and the upcoming game vs. Pitt.

Despite the seeming disarray surrounding the Panther program following losses to Wake and Notre Dame, Norvell says FSU respects the challenge of an opponent he described as tough, physical and aggressive.

“Each week I say the same things about defenses that like to blitz and attack and we have another one (vs.Pitt),” said Norvell. “Coach (Pat) Narduzzi does a wonderful job defensively in being able to create challenges for opposing offenses … historically (they) have been an impactful defense.”

Norvell added that WR Johnny Wilson, who missed Saturday’s game with an undisclosed injury, “got a chance to get some practice in (yesterday).”

No. 4 Florida State (8-0, 6-0) faces the Pitt Panthers (2-6, 1-3) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers absorbed their worst margin of defeat under Pat Narduzzi last week after a 58-7 loss to Notre Dame. The Seminoles are alone atop the ACC standings with Louisville firmly in 2nd place.
