On3 national analyst Chad Simmons, a renowned expert in college football recruiting, joined Warchant’s Michael Langston and Matt LaSerre this week for a two-part series about Florida State recruiting.

In the first part of this video roundtable discussion, which focuses on Florida State recruiting overall and the Seminoles’ strong close to the 2025 cycle, Simmons discusses the late flips of running back Ousmane Kromah and defensive lineman Tylon Lee and why they were so massive for FSU. He also discusses how vital head coach Mike Norvell was in securing those flips.

“Kromah was huge for Florida State,” Simmons said. “Huge win for Florida State getting him out of the home state of Georgia. I give a lot of credit there to Mike Norvell. The lead guy here was Mike Norvell.”

Simmons said he felt Lee could actually end up being the biggest flip of them all after his body transformation, which could allow him to play as a true freshman.

“He showed that relentless, speed off the ball,” Simmons said of the five-star Florida State signee. “Kind of looks like the next in line to be a high draft pick at Florida State. The key was FSU got the last visit … that had a huge impact. They had him on campus before. The key was getting him back on campus, laying out their plan in 48 hours, showing how he could be an impact player right away.”

Florida State also was able to flip three-star DB Shamar Arnoux, who the On3 staff and Simmons are very high on. The Seminoles also were able to keep four-star DL Kevin Wynn despite a strong push from SEC powers.

Also in this roundtable discussion, Simmons went into great detail about new Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and new defensive coordinator Tony White, and the impact they will have on recruiting.

“Big thing for me is Norvell wasn’t scared to make a change and do big moves from OC and DC to position coaches,” Simmons said. “It allows him to sit back and be that CEO. Let Gus run the offense, quarterback room and he has a history with guys like Cam Newton, Bo Nix. One thing we know about Gus is he’s a creative offensive mind.”
