It might have taken a little longer than expected, but four-star edge rusher Amaree Williams has finally announced his commitment to Florida State.

The Palm Beach standout announced his decision Saturday afternoon, just a few days before the late signing period for the Class of 2024 begins. The rest of Florida State’s high school class announced their decisions in December.

To land Williams, the Seminoles beat out Florida, Miami and Kentucky, where his father played in college.

Williams was originally expected to be in the 2025 recruiting class. But shortly after rumors started to swirl in November that he was reclassifying to ’24, Williams immediately took an official visit to check out the Seminoles.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Williams is a top-200 recruit nationally, as well as a top-25 edge rusher. He also is one of the top 25 prospects in the state of Florida.

The 6-foot-4 star at The Benjamin School also played on the offensive side of the ball in high school. Florida State’s coaches told him during the recruiting process that he could get a chance to do the same in college, but defensive end is expected to be his primary position.

During his official visit to Florida State, Williams spoke very highly of head coach Mike Norvell and could not keep a smile off his face when speaking to the media.

“He told me everything I wanted to hear,” Williams said at the time. “They talk about head coaches are salesmen at the end of the day. But you know, he’s more than just a salesman. He’s trying to put players in the right situation, trying to see them grow and see them be the best they can be. It’s not just about Florida State; it’s about the players ourselves.”
