2025 NFL Draft: Georgia OL Jared Wilson taken by New England in 3rd round

After just one season as a starter at Georgia, Jared Wilson’s dreams of playing professional football were realized on Friday. New England picked Wilson with the 95 overall pick (3rd round) of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The North Carolina spent four seasons at Georgia where he patiently waited his turn. Wilson redshirted in 2021, his first season of college ball, but it was apparent from the jump that he would eventually be an impactful player. He started garnering buzz in his first preseason camp.
Georgia was so experienced on the offensive line that Wilson was unable to crack the starting lineup or rotation in either of the next two seasons. Outside of a short relief appearance against Kentucky in 2023 when Sedrick Van Pran-Granger went down, Wilson didn’t see any meaningful action until 2024.
Wilson fought through an achilles/ankle injury during the preseason to serve as Georgia’s starting center in the season opener vs. Clemson. He replaced Van Pran-Granger, who had served as a three-year starter (44 straight games), won two National Championships and was elected team captain twice.

He started the first four games but suffered a setback with his ankle/achilles in Georgia’s loss to Alabama. That caused him to miss the next two games all together but Wilson returned for the Bulldogs showdown with Texas, a game they won 30-15.
Wilson went on to start the next eight games as the Bulldogs won an SEC Championship and made the College Football Playoff for the fourth time under Kirby Smart. According to the Bulldog head man, Wilson isn’t light on talent.
“I’m excited for the rest of the world to get to see Jared Wilson,” Smart said on during the 2024 preseason. This a guy that, No. 1, I don’t put a lot of high expectations on people and anoint people, he has a lot to do to be the best player he can be. But when you talk about athleticism at the center position, this guy runs faster than a lot of our defensive backs, believe it or not, our tight ends, our quarterbacks. His numbers, extremely athletic, over 300 pounds, can get to the second level as quick as anybody. Just really athletic.”
