2025 NFL Draft: Georgia WR Dominic Lovett taken by Detroit Lions in 7th round

Another Georgia wideout is going to get a chance to prove himself at the NFL level. Dominic Lovett, the Bulldogs’ primary slot receiver for the past two seasons, was selected by the Detroit Lions in the seventh round (No. 244 overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Lovett, who hails from Belleville, Illinois, started his college career at Missouri. He was a four-star prospect when he inked with the Tigers. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings”Yeah, I love Dom. He’s got a great spirit, great kid. He makes some big plays for us tonight. He is a great leader. I didn’t see him do that, but I don’t doubt it. We have a great core leadership group, and I challenged them on Wednesday. They needed to step it up., Lovett was the No. 228 overall prospect and No. 33 wideout in the 2021 class. He was the No. 3 player in Illinois.

The Tigers got him involved as a freshman. He caught 26 passes for 173 yards while rushing four times for 40 yards and a score. Lovett broke out in year two, catching 56 passes for 836 yards and three scores. His six grabs for 84 yards, mostly in the first half, against Georgia impressed the Bulldogs to the point that they pounced when he entered the transfer portal at season’s end.

Lovett spent his final two seasons in Athens and was the Bulldogs’ second-leading receiver both years. He caught 54 passes for 613 yards and four scores as a junior. The following season saw him rack up 59 catches for 607 yards and six touchdowns. He had two massive touchdown catches in the Bulldogs ‘Black Friday win over Georgia Tech. Both of those came in the fourth quarter as UGA rallied back from a two separate 14-point defecits.

“Yeah, I love Dom. He’s got a great spirit, great kid. He makes some big plays for us tonight. He is a great leader. I didn’t see him do that, but I don’t doubt it,” Kirby Smart said after Georgia’s win at Texas in October when asked about Lovett motivating his teammates in the fourth quarter. “We have a great core leadership group, and I challenged them on Wednesday. They needed to step it up.”
