Aaron Murray, D.J. Shockley approve of Mike Bobo move
Aaron Murray and D.J. Shockley couldn’t support Georgia’s offensive coordinator move more. Who would know better than them?
The former Georgia quarterbacks achieved contextual success playing under Bobo’s tutelage.
Shockley played for one season as a starter in Mark Richt’s and Mike Bobo’s offense.
He also spelled starter David Greene from 2002-03. Mike Bobo worked as Georgia’s quarterbacks coach during that Georgia era.
Mark Richt called plays in those days before handing the reigns over to Bobo as offensive coordinator for the first time in the 2007 season.
Shockley was a career 54.2% passer at Georgia, with 3,555 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 643 career yards and seven touchdowns.
When Shockley finally got the chance to shine as a starter, he and the Mark Richt–Mike Bobo offensive tandem rolled to a Southeastern Conference Championship and a Sugar Bowl appearance.
That may seem like ancient history to some, but D.J. Shockley still sees the value of Georgia’s Mike Bobo offensive coordinator decision in the wake of Todd Monken’s NFL departure.
“Smart, creative, demanding and one of the best coaches I’ve ever played for!” Shockley said on Twitter.
“This offense will continue to put up numbers and many of the TD’s you saw this year was drawn up by Coach Mike Bobo.”

Aaron Murray would follow Mike Bobo anywhere
Murray ended his Georgia career as one of the most prolific passers in Dawgs and SEC history.
The stat line – under Mike Bobo’s direction as an offensive coordinator, not just a quarterbacks coach – is immaculate:
His 62.3% career passer, 13,166 yards and 121 touchdowns rank among (if not the best) in Georgia history.
Murray never won a conference title. If he did manage to pull it out against Alabama in 2012, he probably wins the National Championship over Notre Dame.
Nevertheless, you saw that Bobo’s contributions can help result in a conference title (2002, 2005 and 2022) and a National Title.
And much like Shock, Murray still respects his sensei.
Not only does Aaron Murray love the Georgia move, he is opportunistic.
When he noticed that Kirby Smart hired yet another Georgia alum, the Dawgs great jokingly (I think) weighed in with his own idea.
I don’t want to speak for Mike Bobo, but I think he’s all set.
With Smart’s hiring trends thus far, however, I don’t think you can ever rule this one out.
