Georgia continues reeling in commits this week, with a second prospect of the week joining the fold, and this time, it’s four-star cornerback AJ Harris. The nation’s No. 35 overall player in the On3 Consensus, Harris becomes Georgia’s tenth commitment of the class of 2023.

He is also the nation’s No. 3 cornerback in the Consensus, as well as the No. 7 prospect in Alabama for the rising senior class.

Harris is also Georgia’s second defensive back commitment of 2023, joining fellow four-star cornerback Justyn Rhett of Las Vegas, Nevada’s Bishop Gorman High School.

A 6-foot-and-a-half, 190-pound defender, Harris hails from Phenix City, Alabama powerhouse Central High School.

While initially thought to be headed to Florida earlier this year, Harris snuck into Athens for an official visit the first weekend of June, and since that time, the Dawgs were able to close any perceived gaps.

We’re told the work of new cornerbacks coach Fran Brown was a major key in this decision, as the two are said to have developed a close relationship behind the scenes.

Harris is also close friends with fellow 2023 four-star tight end commit Pearce Spurlin.

His father, Daniel, previously told On3’s Jeremy Johnson of the Bulldogs:

“The UGA staff makes each visit unique,” Daniel said. “They make it a priority to let A.J. (Harris) know that he is a priority… As a parent, my wife and I are looking extremely hard at how the program treats our son. There is no formula to perfect place, but we look at indicators, does all of the coaches engage AJ or just his position coach and the head coach…UGA does a great job with giving their university a good look right off the bat.”

Evaluating AJ Harris

So, what are the Bulldogs adding in Harris? On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power offered up the following:

“Polished, developed defensive back with positional versatility. Has good stature and size, checking in at 6-foot-1 and around 180 pounds prior to his junior season. A smooth mover and shows some technical refinement to his game. Coordinated and looks to have good ball skills for the position. Was a top performer at The Opening Finals prior to his junior season, showing anticipation and ball skills in picking off a number of passes while lined up as a safety. Played subpar competition at a small private school prior to transferring to a powerhouse public school as a senior. Has not shown high-end long speed to this point and may be best fit as a safety long-term, despite being considered as a cornerback prospect to this juncture.”
