Georgia offensive lineman Amarius Mims has officially taken his name out of the transfer portal per On3 Sports’ Matt Zenitz. DawgsHQ was able to first report earlier in the day that Mims, a former five-star offensive tackle, was expected to stay at Georgia after entering the transfer portal last week. He visited Florida State over the weekend.

Mims enrolled early last spring after Matt Luke and Scott Cochran helped land the signature of the 6-foot-7, 330-pound offensive lineman. He started at left tackle for the Black squad, the second-team offense, on G-Day that spring before making his collegiate debut in the fall against UAB. He also made appearances against Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Auburn, Missouri, Tennessee, Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech, a total of eight games played.

Meanwhile, in the high schools ranks, Mims helped pave the way for a Royals offense that averaged 378.6 yards per game, including 213.3 on the ground, during his senior season. Mims received numerous All-State recognitions over the course of his career, and according to the On3 Consensus, was ranked the No. 12 overall player in the country, No. 3 offensive tackle and the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia.

Georgia lost two offensive linemen from last year’s squad – Jamaree Salyer and Justin Shaffer – and with that being the case, many expected Mims to make the jump into the rotation this spring. DawgsHQ included him on our list of potential breakout players this spring for that reason. However, Broderick Jones has taken steps in the right direction towards securing his spot at left tackle while Xavier Truss and Devin Willock are getting the majority of reps at the guard spots, leaving Mims on the outside looking in, at least this spring.

Mims was the tenth Georgia player to enter the transfer portal, quickly followed by an eleventh in fellow former five-star offensive lineman Clay Webb. With his return, the Bulldogs are back down to 10 players leaving via the transfer portal: Ameer Speed, Jalen Kimber, Justin Robinson, Latavious Brini, Jermaine Burton, JT Daniels, Lovasea Carroll, Owen Condon and Webb.

Mims rejoins an offensive line group with starting spots up for grabs. Saturday at G-Day the first team featured, from left to right, Broderick Jones, Xavier Truss, Sedrick Van Pran, Devin Willock and Warren McClendon. Warren Ericson and Tate Ratledge were both out with injury and are expected to compete for playing time this fall. Mims likely immediately joins them in doing so.
