Anthony Evans injury update: Georgia hoping to get punt returner, receiver back
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia has been a banged up football team through the season, and with that, Kirby Smart gets asked weekly for injury updates. Tuesday, the focus usually is on participation in the first two days of practice, and that was the case ahead of the Bulldogs’ matchup with Tennessee this week providing updates on Anthony Evans and Branson Robinson.
“Branson is back out with us, moving around, running, on the bike and in pads. I don’t want to say he’s a week away, but he’s closer. Anthony Evans is hitting some speeds. He feels good, but we want to be careful with him. Hoping to get him back.”
Evans has missed the last two games for Georgia with a hamstring injury. Prior to being sidelined, the sophomore receiver served as UGA’s primary punt returner (14 returns, 118 yards) and had success in that area while contributing to the offensive output as well with nine catches for 88 yards. As for Robinson, the running back who battled back from a season-long injury in 2023 to get back on the field this fall has been out the last three. He was Georgia’s No. 2 running back at the time of his injury totaling 25 carries for 73 yards and three touchdowns.
Of course the two offensive players aren’t the only two that are dealing with injuries of varying degrees. Smart told reporters on Monday that offensive lineman Earnest Greene has dealt with shoulder problems this season while Tate Ratledge and Micah Morris continue to nurse an injured ankles. Ratledge, who started, played just 17 snaps (of an offensive total of 68) while Morris was a game-time decision that did not give it a go.

“They’re giving great effort, great toughness, they’re doing it by committee. We’ve got guys injured left and right out there so we’re running a drill and there’s no guard in there because we’re out of guards,” Smart said when asked about the practice performance of the offensive line this week. “This guy’s got to go in and take reps, this guy’s got to bump over here, move out there. It’s welcome to the SEC. One thing about those guys, they’re the toughest group on our team and they are the most committed and want to do right and want to play well. It’s tough sledding out there.”
Kickoff time for Saturday’s SEC clash is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Georgia enters as 8.5-point favorites at the time of publication with ESPN Analytics giving the Bulldogs a 61.8% chance of walking away victorious over the Vols.
