Ask Rusty: Georgia football and recruiting intel at start of winter workouts
The College Football offseason is here and that means a lot of different things. Coaches are still moving around and some recruiting classes are still being finalized. There are also transfer portal players still being recruited. At Georgia, it means that winter workouts have started.
Georgia’s window to add players from the portal ended a couple of weeks ago with the end of drop/add and the team’s full focus has been on the 2025 season. That means the integration of six additions from the transfer portal, including two receivers, Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas, who ranked among the top 25 overall prospects.
Meanwhile, Kirby Smart and other Georgia coaches have been all over the road the past couple of weeks. Smart and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo were in Nashville earlier this week to see Nashville Christian quarterback Jared Curtis and the Bulldog head man made his rounds in South Florida, the Peach State, and other areas.
With all of that going on, we carved out an hour at DawgsHQ on Sunday morning to hold an Ask Rusty chat. I fielded questions from our members, questions about Georgia football, recruiting, the portal, and more, and offered some answers. Click on the link below to see the full chat.

ASK Rusty: January 26, 2025
Q: Early prediction on starting (Georgia) OL, left to right this fall?
A: Probably would go (Monroe) Freeling, (Daniel) Calhoun, (Drew) Bobo, (Micah) Morris and (Earnest) Greene.
Q: Make you answer a tough one early: Elyiss (Williams) or the (Mark) Bowman kid out of California the better player?
A: Be hard to vote against Bowman from what I have seen and heard as of now. Elyiss has a ceiling that may be higher but as far as-of-right-now product, it would be hard to pass on Bowman
Q: Where do you expect/think the following Georgia players get drafted: Dylan Fairchild, (Trevor) Etienne, Nazir Stackhouse?
A: All between 3rd and 5th as of today. Stackhouse could go lower but he has some opportunity to stay around 5th.
