Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs collab once again as champions
The state of Georgia is home to two championship teams of this past season – the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Football – and on Wednesday, the two celebrated one another.
In yet another successful collaboration effort between the Braves and Bulldogs, National Championship winning defensive lineman Jordan Davis threw out the first pitch on “Champions Day” at Truist Park. Head coach of the 1980 National Championship team Vince Dooley and mascot Hairy Dawg were also on hand as the Braves take on the Nationals.
It’s not the first time that the two teams have been intertwined. Joc Pederson, a member of that World Series winning team, was recognized at Sanford Stadium in November alongside Blooper, the Braves’ mascot. The hype video for Georgia’s game against in-state rival Georgia Tech, located just a matter of minutes away from Truist Park, featured Braves’ manager Brian Snitker.
The Braves took their crack at a hype video featuring a Georgia legend too. Former Bulldog quarterback DJ Shockley voiced over a “State of Champions” video released Wednesday ahead of the celebration.

As Jordan Davis told the Braves’ broadcast crew on Bally Sports, “the whole state is still buzzing off of it.” Whether he meant the World Series or the National Championship is up for your interpretation. However, what’s not is the fact that you can get your picture taken with the World Series trophy this weekend in Athens on Saturday as Georgia Baseball takes on Texas A&M at Foley Field. Earlier in the day, Georgia Football will host G-Day at Sanford Stadium where Bulldogs will receive their championship rings, once again keeping the “State of Champions” busy and buzzing with championship pride.
“It was insane,” Davis said about the whole experience, winning the National Championship and the reaction he’s seen from fans across the Peach State. “This is just a great thing to be a part of. It’s one of those things that you keep forever. Nobody can ever take that away from me.”
