The second window of the transfer portal opened on Saturday, and Georgia already has its first victim. Rising sophomore defensive lineman Bear Alexander tells Hayes Fawcett of On3 that he plans to enter the portal after spending just one season in Athens.

Alexander, a 6-foot-3, 305 pound native of Texas, played in 12 games this past season as a true freshman. He totaled nine tackles including three for loss with a pair of sacks. Two of the tackles for loss including one of the sacks came in Georgia’s National Championship Game win over TCU to close out the season. Alexander saw an uptick in reps with Georgia having to handle the loss of Jalen Carter for a few games midseason. With Carter off the to NFL now, he was expected to play a pivotal role in replacing him.

Alexander was the ranked the No. 43 overall player in the Class of 2022 and No. 7 defensive lineman coming out of IMG Academy. Charles Power wrote the following scouting summary of Alexander:

Has an ideal frame for a zero technique with high-end initial quickness and flexibility. Will enroll with a college-ready body. Long arms for a 6-foot-3 interior prospect with 81-inch wingspan. Strength is in the phone booth at this point, but possesses the agility to pursue from hash mark to hash mark. Can be very physical at the point of attack. Owns heavy hands and has natural play strength. Creates a jolt on initial contact when his pads are low. Takes on and wins against double teams. Has missed significant portions of his high school career due to being ruled ineligible after multiple transfers. Was able to play during a state title run as a junior at Denton Ryan in Texas and was a dominant performer on a defense loaded with Power 5 prospects.

Alexander’s departure is the 11th of the offseason for Georgia joining the 10 that did so during the first open period. He is the second defensive lineman to enter the portal joining Bill Norton, who landed at Arizona. Other transfers include Dominic Blaylock, AD Mitchell (Texas), Arik Gilbert (Nebraska), Brett Seither (Georgia Tech), Ryland Goede (Mississippi State), Jacob Hood (Nebraska), Trezman Marshall (Alabama), MJ Sherman (Nebraska) and Jaheim Singletary (Arkansas).

The Bulldogs also lost Jalen Carter and Shone Washington from last year’s defensive line group but added a pair of talented players in the Class of 2023, Jordan Hall and Jamaal Jarrett. Zion Logue, Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson return on the interior, where Alexander played, while the likes of Mykel Williams, Tramel Walthour and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins are back at defensive end. With Alexander gone, it could mean more snaps for his signing class-mate Christen Miller or Jonathan Jefferson, entering his third season in the program.
