Never let coaches and players talk you into thinking that the game of football isn’t teeming with emotion at all times. As much as those guys like to preach composure and remaining even-keel, strong emotion is impossible to keep out of the sport. A recent exchange between former Georgia and current Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Ben Jones and his head coach, Mike Vrabel, is all the evidence you need.

Ben Jones entered the tunnel after Tennessee’s win over Indianapolis on Sunday and Vrabel, with tears in his eyes and his voice cracking, was there waiting on him. Jones, for a significant portion of that game, had played through injury to help his team earn the victory.

According to Mike Organ of The Tennessean, Ben Jones was dealing with said injury late in the game when he played a key role in helping the Titans keep a drive alive on a Derrick Henry run. The video shows Vrabel telling Jones, “I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve never seen anything like it. I love you like my[explicative] own. You hear me?”

“I just appreciate them; that’ll stay between me and Ben,” Vrabel said per the Tennessean. “You come to work everyday, you’re here a lot of hours and you get a lot of respect for guys the way they are as people. The way they are as teammates and players and parents and husbands. To be able to see what it means to these guys, it’s not just another game, it’s not just a paycheck. I just really appreciate what they do.”

Ben Jones is currently in his 11th NFL season after serving as a three-plus year starter at Georgia. He was with the Bulldogs from 2008 to 2011. He took over as UGA’s starting center a few games into the 2008 season and never looked back.

After earning second-team All-SEC honors as a senior in 2011, Ben Jones was taken in the fourth round (No. 99 overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft by Houston. He played with the Texans for four seasons before moving on to Tennessee in 2016.

The past 10-plus NFL seasons have seen jones appear in 166 games with 145 starts. He has started every one of his team’s games in eight of those 10 seasons.
