DawgsHQ wants to take a look at the best passing plays in Georgia football history, and none of these lists are complete without Belue to Scott.

We all have our favorites, or at the very least, we all have a play that immediately comes to mind.

*** Previous entries in this series: ***

David Greene to Michael Johnson at Auburn in 2002

Jake Fromm to Terry Godwin at Notre Dame in 2017

David Greene to Verron Haynes at Tennessee in 2001

Today, we’ll revisit a play that paved the way for Georgia football’s 1980 National Championship.

Belue to Scott made Larry Munson an eternal radio legend

I wasn’t alive for this play.

Respectfully, I’ll let you read and hear the call of Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott, from someone who very much was:

“Florida in a stand-up five, they may or may not blitz, they won’t. Buck back. Third down on the 8. In trouble. Got a block behind him. Going to throw on the run. Complete to the 25, to the 30. Lindsay Scott 35, 40. Lindsay Scott 45, 50, 45, 40. Run Lindsay! Twenty-five, 20, 15, 10, 5. Lindsay Scott Lindsay Scott Lindsay Scott!

Of course, some of the greatest part of Munson’s call came after the touchdown, in true Munson fashion. He sure could paint that picture with his words.

Head coach Vince Dooley had the best view of the play – until he didn’t.

“I started running with him and, maybe for 10 yards, I out-ran him,” Dooley said.

“Our bench got out of my way. Reflecting back, it was only three yards before Lindsay left me in the dust on the way to the end zone.”

He pleasantly surprised everyone when it mattered most.

Well, I can’t believe it. 92 yards and Lindsay really got in a footrace, I broke my chair, I came right through a chair, a metal STEEL chair with about a five inch cushion … Do you know what is gonna happen here tonight? And up at St. Simons and Jekyll Island and all those places where all those Dawg people have got those condominiums for four days? Man! Is there gonna be some property destroyed tonight! 26 to 21, Dawgs on top! We were gone. I gave up, you did too. We were out of it and gone. Miracle!

After hearing Belue-to-Scott so many times in my life, I feel like I did witness it somehow

Maybe it’s because I’ve finally seen Georgia win a National Championship in person.

I know what the fabric of a championship-caliber moment looks like, feels like, sounds like.

It smells like bourbon, for the record.

A lot of bourbon.

On that note, I wonder which passing play will round out this little exercise in Georgia football history?

Hmm…..
