Brock Bowers is getting all sorts of love after an incredible showing in Georgia’s 48-7 win at South Carolina. The sophomore from Napa, Calif. has been named the John Mackey Award tight end of the week.

It’s the second time he has received that award. The first was after Georgia’s win over Kentucky last season. The honor comes on the heels of Brock Bowers being named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

South Carolina had a whale of a time dealing with Brock Bowers on Saturday. He caught five passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He also had one carry for five yards and a score. One of those touchdowns came on UGA’s opening drive of the second half when Bowers caught a short pass over the middle, got through two Gamecock defenders, and scored from 78 yards out.

Brock Bowers has now played just 18 games in a UGA uniform and has six games with multiple touchdowns. The South Carolina game marked the second time he has scored three times in one game. He now has five 100-yard games in his Bulldog career.

“I don’t even know his numbers. I knew he looked fast running down the field,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Bowers after the game when asked how he looked on Saturday. “The thing about Brock that is so hard that you don’t get to measure is the amount of attention he draws. You know, 121, whatever that is, yards. But, you know, three or four of those plays that Brock made, there were people blocking down the field — elite blocking down the field.”

The sophomore tight end served as Georgia’s leading receiver and No. 1 offensive weapon in the 2021 National Championship season. As a true freshman Bowers caught 56 passes for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. He added another touchdown on the ground. Brock Bowers was at his best in postseason play where he caught a touchdown in each of the SEC Championship game, the Orange Bowl, and the National Championship game.

Brock Bowers will have a chance to add to his numbers on Saturday against Kent State (12 p.m. ET on SEC Network+). Golden Flash head coach Sean Lewis has already heaped praise on Bowers and Georgia.

“He’s extremely special,” Lewis said of Bowers earlier this week. “He’s extremely rare and there’s a reason why at a very young age he’s having exceptional performances. He’s very, very special. He moves like a wide receiver with his athletic ability. His catch radius is phenomenal. His run after catch is truly unique for an individual his size. And his willingness to add value and not just hold up as an inline blocker is truly unique. He’s a special talent.”
