Brock Bowers makes the rounds on Radio Row at Super Bowl LVIII
Brock Bowers made the rounds on Radio Row in Las Vegas ahead of Super Bowl LVIII on Wednesday, and while lots of talk was about his potential NFL career, the area he enjoyed talking about most seemed to be all that was accomplished at Georgia.
As Bowers was aware, there wasn’t much losing during his time in Athens. The Bulldogs went a combined 42-2 in three seasons, taking home a pair of national titles in the process. Bowers was a big part of that success as he led UGA in receiving all three years. He claims that practicing against the Georgia defense is what made it possible.
“We always said the practices were gonna be harder than the games and that’s how it was,” Bowers said on SportsCenter. “I mean coming in there going against guys like Travon Walker, having Jordan Davis, and Nakobe [Dean], and Quay [Walker], and all those NFL dudes. I mean I think after my freshman year all those dudes were on NFL rosters and just doing their thing. So it definitely made me better throughout my three years.”
Walker was the player Bowers claimed was the “freakiest.” The future No. 1 pick crossed paths with Bowers just one season, but it was a year that made the Napa, Calif. freshman better. Now, it’s Bowers that has a chance to join him as a potential top-10 pick.
“Going against him my freshman year when I first got there, little freshman me, I was skinny and he was on the other side of the ball in a 6-tech,” Bowers said, this time with Pro Football Talk. “Just bang, and it was awful. He was the freakiest dude I think I’ve seen come through there.”
Walker is with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and if Bowers were to have a choice, those two would be matching up twice a year in the AFC South. That’s because playing for the Tennessee Titans would be his dream team. Having come from California, Bowers has found a home in the Southeast, and he claims he doesn’t want to leave.

The Titans pick at No. 7. Bowers might not make it that far as many have him projected off the board at No. 5 to the Los Angeles Chargers. Now under the direction of Jim Harbaugh, who used the tight end position prominently in his previous stint in the NFL with Bowers’ favorite team growing up, the San Francisco 49ers, pairing a pass catcher like Bowers with Justin Herbert in the physical scheme of Harbaugh could be perfect.
“It’s hard to say. I just want to be with whoever wants me, who wants to take me, who wants to use me,” Bowers said. “That’s the main thing. If I had to choose a place to live, I would love to live in Georgia or Tennessee. I kind of liked it while I was down there at Georgia.”
“It would be sweet,” he later added when the possibility of going with the top pick was thrown out there. “I feel like I’m a pretty low risk guy, going to show up and do my thing. Just work hard, try my best and not screw anything up.”
Bowers will expected to be invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis at the end of this month where his participation in drills will be closely monitored coming off of an ankle injury. Bowers says he’s had to balance the rehab process with training, spending a lot of his time working on the Xs and Os of becoming an NFL tight end.
