Bulldogs lose leader for year as Jailyn Ingram tears ACL
Georgia Basketball suffered a tough blow on Tuesday despite defeated Jacksonville as graduate transfer forward Jailyn Ingram went down to injury. The Madison, Ga. native tore his ACL, as announced by Georgia head coach Tom Crean on Twitter, and will have surgery that will end his season.
Starting all nine games so far this season, Ingram was averaging 10.7 points per game. He scored in double figures in each of the last six, including a season-high 17 against in-state rival Georgia Tech.
Ingram also helped on the boards, averaging 6.0 per game with 12 in Georgia’s loss to Virginia at the opening game of the Roman Legends Classic. Through nine games, he is the team-leader for rebounding.
After the game on Tuesday, Georgia coaches and players alike were emotional speaking about Ingram’s injury.
“We’re just going to pray for him. I ask that, if you so choose, you do it for him,” Crean said. “I pray that it’s okay, and if it’s not, God’s will be done. All these guys, they’re really good people. You guys don’t know it yet because you don’t see them behind the scenes like this. We have really good kids here, young men. So, we’re just going to pray tonight and see how it turns out. He’s an incredible young man. We don’t do what we’ve done to this point without him.”

“This dude is one of the most respected human beings I’ve ever met, ever hung around. He is just a walking leader, a walking of showing what the right thing to do is, and everyone responded when he went down,” Georgia guard Jaxon Etter added. “It didn’t look good. Those non-contact injuries never look good. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family tonight. The guys really responded. We have a big hole to fill. Tonight, my thoughts and prayers are with him. The guys responded really well.”
Without Ingram, the pressure is amped up for a player like Jabri Adur-Rahim. The Virginia transfer has started three games so far this season and would seem like an option to plug into Ingram’s place. Adur-Rahim is averaging 7.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. However, he’s playing some of his best basketball recently with outings of 20, 15 and 10 against Wofford, Memphis and Jacksonville, Georgia’s last three games.
More will also be asked from Georgia’s leading scorer Braelen Bridges. Like Ingram, Bridges has started every game this season and is averaging 12.7 points per game. However, it’s on the boards where Bridges is likely to be asked to do even more, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game, second on the team behind Ingram, at 6-foot-11.
Georgia will be back in action next Saturday after the players finish up final exams, taking on George Mason. The Bulldogs have won their last two games and will look to get to .500 on the season with a win over the Patriots. Tipoff time at Stegeman Coliseum is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
