Georgia head coach Kirby Smart appeared on ESPN’s College Football Playoff selection show on Saturday where he was unable to shed any light on Carson Beck‘s injury status. Smart did, however, say that Beck has undergone an MRI and that the results would be available “soon.”
“I’m still trying to get that knowledge myself,” Smart told ESPN. “He did have an MRI this morning. We should get the results the in next few hours. We had a team meeting this morning and should be finding something out here soon.”
Beck was injured on the final play of the second quarter as Georgia went for a 42-yard Hail Mary attempt instead of a field goal of 59 yards. After holding the ball long enough for the Longhorn rush to get home and he was hit as he threw. It was ruled a fumble and picked up by Texas and returned into UGA territory but nothing came of it other than the Beck injury.
He remained down on the field for a couple of minutes after play was stopped. Georgia trainers and coaches came out to get him but he was able to get up and walk off the field on his own power with a limp and seemingly favoring his arm.

“He just said his hand got hit as he was throwing it there,” Smart told ESPN’s Holly Rowe before entering the locker room at halftime. The guy came all the way around the edge, which people do in that situation. He’s got to be aware of it and just get rid of the ball.”
The Jacksonville native came back in for the final play of the game, a handoff to Trevor Etienne that went for a five-yard, walk-off touchdown. Upon returning to the sideline, Beck did not attempt to throw a football. He was seen with ice on both his elbow and his shoulder.
