Watch: Georgia pledge Chris Peal highlights
Georgia beat out Michigan for one of the nation’s most gifted defensive backs on Sunday. Providence Day School (Charlotte, N.C.) cornerback Chris Peal committed to the Bulldogs in a Sunday ceremony, giving Georgia 22 in the 2023 cycle.
At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Peal is ranked as the nation’s No. 75 overall prospect and No. 8 cornerback per the On3 in-house rankings. He’s the No. 4 player in North Carolina per those same rankings. If you look at the On3 Consensus, which takes into account evaluations from three other outlets, Peal is ranked No. 172 overall and No. 21 at cornerback.
“Athletic cornerback with smooth coverage skills. Measured at 6-feet tall, 175 pounds as a junior. One of the faster top cornerback prospects, running 10.78 seconds in the 100 meters as a junior. Also tested very well in the combine setting prior to his junior season. Technically clean in coverage. Stays in phase with receivers and shows the ability to locate and make plays on the ball. A smooth mover both in games and the camp setting. Also flashes his athleticism and playmaking ability as a running back. Finished with 56 tackles and 2 interceptions along with 865 yards and 11 touchdowns from scrimmage. Lacks ideal length with a neutral wing-span and can continue getting strong to aid in his tackling.”

Georgia now has four players committed at the cornerback position and five in the defensive backfield. Chris Peal joins A.J. Harris, Daniel Harris and Justyn Rhett at cornerback and Joenel Aguero is listed as a safety. A.J. Harris and Aguero are Georgia’s two highest-rated commitments in the 2023 class.
The Bulldogs are ranked No. 2 overall with only Alabama in front. Georgia is coming off a No. 3 class in 2022 and has put together six straight top three classes. Peal’s On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) had Georgia has the heavy favorite. The Bulldogs held 96.4 percent.
