ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia defensive lineman Christen Miller will miss the remainder of the UMass game after exiting the game with a shoulder injury. Miller needed help getting off the field as trainers held his right arm before entering the injury tent.

Miller has started each of Georgia’s 11 games this season at defensive tackle. He came into the game with 21 total tackles on the year to go with 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. The Cedar Grove High School product had four tackles for loss and a sack last season.

The third-year defensive lineman has been a key cog for the Bulldogs in 2024. In fact, who knows where Georgia would be without him. Miller and Nazir Stackhouse were Georgia’s only two experienced interior defensive linemen for the first few games of the year.

When Warren Brinson got healthy and returned for the Alabama game, that gave the Bulldogs three guys on the interior and they shared the vast majority of the snaps. As the Bulldogs have gotten healthier with the returns of Xavier McLeod and Jordan Hall, Miller and company have played fewer snaps but continue to form the core of the group.

Despite being paper thin at times and playing the nation’s toughest schedule, Georgia still ranks among the SEC best and most consistent run defenses. Miller has helped the Bulldogs hold teams to 3.39 yards per carry. They have also been able to apply pressure in big games, sacking Tennessee five times last week and Tennessee six times last month.

The Bulldogs also rank fourth in the SEC when it comes to preventing run plays of 10+ yards. Through 10 games this season Georgia has allowed just 33 runs to go for 10 or more yards. Georgia leads UMass 21-7 midway through the second quarter.
