Georgia defensive line commit Christian Garrett has decided to reopen his recruiting process. The Prince Avenue Christian product announced he is backing off his pledge and de-committing from the Bulldogs.

Garrett, listed at 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, ranks as the No. 129 player overall and No. 11 defensive lineman in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking. On3’s in-house On300 has him highest of any outlet in the industry at No. 62 nationally and No. 5 for his position.

Georgia won out in the Garrett sweepstakes over the likes of Clemson, Georgia Tech and Tennessee in early June. He was coming off of an official visit to Athens after one the weekend before to check out Clemson. However, it was a somewhat surprising development given the fact he had announced a commitment date already, instead deciding to go ahead and make his commitment known earlier.

Garrett recently indicated that he was unsure of fall visit plans but was still hearing from Georgia Tech and Tennessee. The Bulldogs hoped to hold onto him using the hometown appeal, attending high school less than 15 miles away from Sanford Stadium.

Georgia’s Class of 2025, ranked No. 4 nationally before the de-commitment, still includes 22 players – three of whom are five-stars. EDGE Isaiah Gibson, tight end Elyiss Williams and linebacker Zayden Walker headline the class with the likes of wide receiver Talyn Taylor, cornerback Shamari Earls and quarterback Ryan Montgomery helping fill out the rest.

Defensive linemen Stephon Shivers and Jayden-Jamal Hanne remain on board for Tray Scott while he is still pursuing the likes of Elijah Griffin and Justus Terry, the Peach State’s two top ranked prospects and both top-10 players overall per the On3 Industry Ranking. Rutgers commit Braxton Kyle recently received an offer from Georgia, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody to see the Bulldogs turn the heat up on Florida State commit Kevin Wynn from just down the road in Greensboro, Ga.
