Georgia ends regular season at No. 1 in coaches poll
The final coaches poll of the 2023 regular season is here and Georgia is in the same spot now that it was in when the season started. The Bulldogs remain at No. 1 with 59 first-place votes. Michigan sits in the No. 2 spot with four first-place votes.
Washington, Florida State, and Oregon, in that order, round out the top five. Ohio State sits at No. 6 followed by Texas, Alabama, Missouri, and Penn State. Ole Miss and Tennessee, two teams that Georgia defeated in November, come in at No. 11 and No. 23, respectively.
The Bulldogs are coming off one of their least impressive wins of the season at Georgia Tech. They fell behind 7-0 and 10-7 before grabbing a 21-13 win going into halftime. UGA dominated the third quarter, extending the lead to 31-13 before giving up the final 10 points of the game. The Yellow Jackets pulled within eight points with 3:26 left in the game but once the Bulldogs recovered the onside kick, it was over. They ran it right at Tech, earned a couple of first downs, and salted the game away.
The win etched UGA’s name in the SEC record books. Kirby Smart‘s crew now has the longest win streak, 29 games, in the history of the league. Alabama had two separate 28-game win streaks, one under Bear Bryant and another under Gene Stallings.

Next up for the Bulldogs is their third straight trip to the SEC Championship game where they will take on Alabama. Georgia is the early 5.5-point favorite and kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET on CBS.
