Georgia entered the 2024 season as the nation’s No. 1 team in the coaches poll and it did nothing to hurt itself in week one. The Bulldogs are still No. 1 in the coaches poll after thumping Clemson 34-3 in the Aflac Kickoff game to kick off the season. The Tigers, who came into the game No. 14, fell eight spots to No. 22 in the latest US LBM coaches poll.

The Bulldogs are followed by Ohio State at No. 2 before the top five is rounded out by three future Georgia opponents. Texas, UGA’s opponent on October 19, is ranked No. 3. Alabama is ranked No. 4 and it plays the Bulldogs on September 28. Ole Miss comes in at No. 5 and it will play the Bulldogs on November 9. Georgia will be on the road for all three of those games.

Oregon, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan and Missouri, in that order, round out the top 10. Georgia has one more future opponent inside the top 25 with Tennessee sitting at No. 12.

The Bulldogs were impressive in the opener despite a sloppy first half on offense. Georgia held just a 6-0 lead over Clemson at halftime but at that point the Tigers had yet to reach midfield. In fact, Dabo Swinney‘s team reached midfield on just two of 12 possessions in the game.

Georgia held Clemson to just 188 yards of total offense on the day while piling up 447 of it’s own. The Tigers managed just 3.6 yards per play in the contest and ran the football 23 times for just 46 yards. They haven’t scored a touchdown against UGA in the past 10 quarters of game action between the two teams. The last score came late in the second quarter of Georgia’s 45-21 win.

Next up for Georgia is the 2024 home opener against Tennessee Tech. That game will kick off at 2 p.m. ET on SEC Network +.
