Colbie Young rejoins Georgia football program in limited capacity
Georgia is a step closer to getting senior wideout Colbie Young back from suspension but reinstatement is not imminent. Persons with knowledge of the situation tell DawgsHQ that Young has been cleared by the UGA Equal Opportunity/TitleIX Office. The criminal charges stemming from an October arrest, however, are still pending.
Due to Young gaining that clearance with the school, he has been able to rejoin the team in a limited capacity. He was back in the building and participated in some team activities on Monday for the first time since he was arrested on October 8 on charges of battery and assault on an unborn child.
Sources tell DawgsHQ that he was physically active while the Bulldogs practiced on Monday but that he did not actually work out with the team. Young can practice with the team once he clears the NCAA’s acclimation period. He will not be able to return to the field, however, until the charges are dropped.
The New York native and former Miami Hurricane has yet to enter a plea for those charges. His arraignment is set for December 10. Young’s alleged victim, since the accident, has recanted the statement she gave to the Athens-Clarke County police. She went as far as to sign a sworn affidavit claiming that Young did not harm her nor make any inappropriate contact.

“I did go to Colbie’s apartment late at night to talk to him about our relationship and my pregnancy,” she said in an affidavit that was filed almost three weeks ago. “Colbie asked me to leave more than once while I was there. I did not leave until I became upset with him and did not think our conversation was productive.
“Colbie did not place his hands on me in any way during the conversation and argument that was inappropriate or unwanted. He did not hit me. He did not push me. He did not cause any bruising or marks on me. He did not injure me in any way.”
Prior to the suspension Young had played in all five of Georgia’s games. He had 11 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns. His last two games in a Georgia uniform saw him catch six passes for 108 yards.
