Georgia is up three more spots in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. After moving up two spots with its win over Tennessee, SEC chaos combined with a Big10 beatdown has caused the Bulldogs to surge to the No. 7 spot. They are projected as the No. 8 seed if the playoff were to be based off the current rankings.

Oregon is at No. 1 followed by Ohio State at No. 2, Texas at No. 3, and Penn State at No. 4. Notre Dame is up to No. 5 followed by Miami at No. 6. Tennessee occupies the No. 8 spot followed by SMU and Indiana to round out the top 10. Georgia is the only team in the country with wins over three top 12 teams.

Texas A&M fell five spots after losing in triple overtime on Saturday. It rests at No. 20. Ole Miss also falls five spots after losing at Florida, ranking No. 14. Alabama tumbles six spots to No. 13 after a 24-3 loss at Oklahoma.

Georgia is coming off it’s biggest offensive outburst of the season, a 59-21 win over UMass. Since returning home from a stretch that had them go over a month without playing inside Sanford Stadium, the Bulldogs have averaged 45 points per game in wins over the Minutemen and the Volunteers.

The Bulldogs have clinched a spot in the 2024 SEC Championship game, which will take place on December 7. They’ll have a chance to play for a first-round bye if that happens and the winner of Texas at Texas A&M this Saturday will be on the other sideline.

Next up, however, is Georgia Tech. If the Bulldogs win that one, they almost certainly punch a ticket to the College Football Playoff whether they win the SEC Championship game or not. Either way, Kirby Smart is locked in on the in-state rival.

“This is a huge matchup,” Smart said of the Georgia Tech game on Monday. This is an inner-state rivalry game that’s been part of history for a long, long time. And it is a physical game. It was a very physical game last year. It’ll be a physical game this year. I’m excited to be at home on a Friday night and looking forward to our crowd impacting this game. We need them to impact this game because we do have it at home.”
