Commitment Day Primer: No. 1 recruit Jackson Cantwell to decide

Georgia’s recruiting world has again come to a pause as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Rankings, Jackson Cantwell, is set to make his decision on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs got the last visit from Cantwell over the weekend. He made his way to Athens on Saturday and got one last look at Georgia.
The Bulldogs have been battling Miami, Oregon and Ohio State to land Cantwell. He had not been to Georgia since he attended Georgia’s win over Auburn back on Oct. 5, 2024.
Cantwell felt good about what he knew about Georgia after that visit. He went to look elsewhere before coming to the decision table on Tuesday.

What has he said about Georgia?
Cantwell is familiar with Georgia on a few levels. He’s got a lot of respect for the culture in Athens. Cantwell has known that for a while. The development in Athens is a key piece of the puzzle for Cantwell.
“I enjoy going to Athens because they have a great football program there that historically wins a lot of games,” Cantwell said back on Dec. 29. “It’s always promising when they do that. There’s a lot of attention to detail in their visits and stuff. They showed me why I could be a good football player at Georgia and how they can develop that. Development is very good. Coach Smart sends a lot of guys to the NFL, probably more than any other program out there. There’s a lot of promising stuff.”
Georgia has made Cantwell a major priority. He’s heard from Stacy Searels multiple times that he’s the first priority at offensive tackle.

“Coach Searels has told me that I’m the number one tackle on their list right now,” Cantwell said in December. “If they can choose anybody, they’d want me to come play for them. That means a lot. When you think about the University of Georgia, that’s really cool. I know they definitely don’t want me to get away.”
The Big Picture
Cantwell is one of the most college-ready offensive line prospects to come out of high school in a long time. Adding him would instantly sure up some spot on the offensive line for the next three years.
Georgia could be looking at the twilight of the college careers for Monroe Freeling and Earnest Greene if they play well in 2025.
That could set up an epic battle to be their replacements in 2026 with a group of talented, but inexperienced players. Cantwell is clearly a very talented player, and throwing him in any room can elevate the depth and competition level.
