Dakota Leffew, another Mount St. Mary's star, announces commitment to Georgia
Georgia just added its third transfer portal commitment of the offseason and second from Mount St. Mary’s. 6-foot-5, First-Team All-MAAC guard Dakota Leffew announced his commitment to the Bulldogs on Saturday morning.
Leffew chooses UGA after taking visits to South Carolina, Syracuse and Villanova. He also had Pittsburgh and Xavier in his final schools to consider. Leffew joins teammate De’Shayne Montgomery in his commitment to Georgia.
A native of Hampton, Ga. and product of Jonesboro High School, Leffew spent four seasons with the Mountaineers. He truly came onto the scene as a junior, averaging 13.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game while starting all 31 for the Mountaineers. Leffew scored in double figures 24 times including five of 20 or more. While shooting 38% from 3-point range, he made four or more shots from deep in seven games with a season-high six against Canisius.
As a senior this past season, Leffew improved on all his numbers. He averaged 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. While his 3-point percentage dropped ever-so slightly, the 36.5% rate still was strong. He scored a career-high 34 points against Marist in early February, one of his 13 outings with 20 or more. Only three times was Leffew kept in check to less than 10 points, once again starting every game in which he played for Mount St. Mary’s. He had 26 in a December matchup with Georgia.

Leffew will have just one year of eligibility remaining as he joins a Georgia team that returns Silas Demary, Blue Cain, Dylan James and Frank Anselem-Ibe after a run to the NIT semifinals. The Bulldogs won 20 games for the first time in eight seasons and add to their roster five-star plus+ forward Asa Newell, along with the aforementioned MAAC Rookie of the Year De’Shayne Montgomery and Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Justin Abson. With Leffew’s addition, Georgia has five open spots remaining.
