Georgia added a five-star prospect on National Signing Day. Venice (Venice, Fla.) EDGE Damon Wilson chose the Bulldogs over Ohio State and Alabama, giving the Bulldogs their 26th pledge of the current class.

At 6-foot-4 235 pounds, Wilson is the nation’s No. 17 overall prospect and No. 4 EDGE according to the industry-generated, equally-weighted On3 Consensus. He’s the No. 4 player in Florida per those rankings.

When you look at the On3 stand-alone rankings, however, Wilson is ranked much higher. There he is the nation’s No. 4 overall prospect, No. 2 EDGE, and No. 2 player in Florida. Wilson has one of the most impressive films of any defender in the country.

“Disruptive pass rusher with one of the best first steps in the 2023 cycle. Bursts off the snap and is often in the backfield before opposing offensive linemen are out of their stance. Owns a solid build, checking in at nearly 6-foot-4, 230 pounds prior to his junior season with plus length for the position. Tests as a good athlete in the combine setting but plays quicker than his times indicate. Shows the ability to bend and dip around the edge, in addition to the outstanding first step. Plays for a top high school program in Florida. Turned in strong production with 15 sacks as a junior. Has added strength and checks in as one of the strongest EDGE defenders in the class in terms of weight room numbers. Highly technical and polished with his hands. Has few holes in his game and looks like one of the highest floor defenders in the cycle to go with substantial upside.”On3 Scouting

Georgia currently has the nation’s No. 2 class for the 2023 cycle. Wilson is the only five-star in the group. The Bulldogs’ two highest-ranked commitments in the class, Wilson and IMG (Bradenton, Fla.) EDGE Samuel M’Pemba, both play a major position of need.

The Bulldogs likely aren’t done with the 2023 class just yet. They are the leader for high-four-star defensive lineman Jordan Hall. UGA is also in a good spot for five-star tight end Duce Robinson, who’ll sign on the traditional National Signing Day on the first Wednesday in February.
