Amidst an NFL Draft that’s seen three Georgia players picked by the Philadelphia Eagles, another Dawg is headed to the Birds. Former Georgia running back D’Andre Swift has been traded from the Detroit Lions to the defending NFC champions in the City of Brotherly Love.

The addition of Swift gives the Eagles six former Georgia players on their roster. They took Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean in the 2022 NFL Draft before adding Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith during the first round of the 2023 edition on Thursday. Then, to get the fourth round started on Saturday, general manager Howie Roseman and company made the call to cornerback Kelee Ringo before finalizing the deal to add Swift.

Swift, who went to Saint Joseph’s Prep for high school in Philadelphia, has been in the NFL since 2020. In 39 career games, Swift has totaled 1,680 rushing yards and 18 scores on the ground. He’s also added 1,198 yards receiving with seven touchdowns.

Swift has battled injuries at different points in his professional career but managed to play in 13 games each year. This past season he started a career-high eight games but had a career-low 99 carries.

Swift signed with Georgia in the Class of 2017, Kirby Smart’s first complete recruiting class. He was ranked the No. 46 overall player and No. 6 running back according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

During his Georgia career, Swift ran for over 1,000 yards during two different seasons. He served as a backup to the pairing of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel as a freshman, scoring an important touchdown in the SEC Championship win over Auburn. Once they were gone though, he exploded onto the scene.

Swift had 1,049 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in 2018. Then, in 2019, he went for 1,218 rushing yards and seven scores. As a junior, Swift recorded five games with over 100 yards and a stretch of four straight games with a rushing touchdown.

Swift joins an Eagles offense that has made big moves recently. Last year they traded for wide receiver AJ Brown. That acted as a catalyst for an offensive explosion behind quarterback Jalen Hurts, who signed a deal that made him the highest paid player in the NFL at the time just last week.

Other offensive weapons for the Eagles include running back Kenneth Gainwell, wide receiver DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert, plus an offensive line that features the likes of veterans Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson as well as younger stars Landon Dickerson and Jordan Mailata.

The Eagles lost in the Super Bowl last season to the Kansas City Chiefs. They defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game and finished the regular season with the league’s best record.
