Most of the 2023 Georgia recruiting class enrolled in January — almost 70 percent of it, actually. The Bulldogs welcomed 18 players to campus and 17 of them got a taste of spring practice. Sixteen of them finished spring drills and got the full spring semester experience in the Classic City.

The other eight are arriving this summer with most of them having already enrolled. They’re going to get right into the flow of things with summer workouts and classes, but it’s going to take some time for them to catch up.

With that in mind, DawgsHQ is taking one last look at them before they fully settle in under the Bulldogs’ roof. Next up is a guy that Georgia refused to give up on and got him to commit twice.

CB Daniel Harris

On3 Industry Ranking: No. 162 overall, No. 18 cornerback, No. 35 in Florida

On3 Scouting: “Tall corner who has one of the best size and speed combinations among prospects at the position in the 2023 cycle. Has plus stature and length for the position, checking at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds with arm length over 32 inches. Harris doubles as a strong sprinter with a personal best of 10.74 seconds in the 100 meters through the middle of his junior track season. The physical skill set results in a pure outside corner who excels at turning and running with receivers downfield. Smooth in his transitions, particularly for a taller cornerback. Understands how to best position his body when in-phase with receivers. Capable of locating and turning to track the football. Shows encouraging signs of physicality as a run and cover down defender. Willing to throw his body around and has some striking power. Can continue improving his ball production and tackling form. The physical traits give him one of the more tangible and projectable skill sets among top corners in the 2023 cycle.”

The Story…

Georgia offered Harris in February of 2022 and it immediately became a contender. Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State also got heavily into the mix as well. He took official visits to each of those schools. Ohio State and Michigan came before Georgia and Penn State came after.

Harris joined Georgia’s 2023 class in July of 2022, once those four official visits were over. Then, somewhat suddenly, he decided to back off that commitment and open things back up in November. Most thought he would land at Penn State but Georgia continued to recruit him hard and Fran Brown got him back into the fold on the first day of the Early Signing Period. He re-committed and signed that day.

Where Harris fits…

He’s a tall, long defender who can really run. Harris has the frame and skillset that Kirby Smart and company love to use at cornerback and, specifically, to the boundary when necessary.

The South Florida native is no stranger to playing against speed and physicality, so he’ll be ready to lock horns with talented wideouts at the next level. He has the flexibility and twitch to play off-man while possessing the length to go bump-and-run.

Preseason camp expectations…

Harris has to get bigger and stronger before he’s able to help out in any area other than punt gunner. He is rail thin at this point in his development and will need to get up to around 190 pounds before he’s ready to play on the defensive side of the ball or cover kickoffs.

But once he gets his body right, the sky’s the limit. There’s a reason that On3’s Charles Power ranked him as the nation’s No. 55 overall prospect.
