Darnell Washington has plenty of physical attributes that separate him from his fellow tight end NFL Draft hopefuls. Obviously, the stature is a good start.

At 6’7″, 272 pounds, few prospects come within a couple inches or a dozen pounds of the Big Dawg.

The ‘Big 0’ sees that himself when asked about what sets him apart from his peers, as he answered at Georgia’s Pro Day.

“Just looking at them, just the size difference,” Washington told reporters.

It isn’t just the size differential that Darnell Washington will bring to one fortunate NFL franchise.

He spent his three years at Georgia putting that size to good use with a fiery mentality between the ears and outside the tackles.

“I got the ‘want-to’ of blocking, I feel like I got the ‘want-to’ and I got the willpower,” Washington said.

“I feel like that’s what separates me from the other tight ends in this draft class.”

Darnell Washington on why NFL teams should draft him

Yes, Washington showed out with a 4.64 official 40-yard dash.

Yes, he snagged a pass in receiving drills with one mighty paw (even though he didn’t get both feet down inbounds, by his own critical examination) and blew the blocking sled up.

But it’s the total package that Darnell Washington brings to defenders’ face masks that will make one NFL fanbase very happy in the run game, the red zone and in the open field.

And Washington doesn’t plan on easing into anything even, if it means his role has to grow over time.

“I feel like the ‘want-to,’ but I feel like I’m a good, complete, all-around tight end. I feel like, hopefully that’s kind of one of my goals is coming into a team and making an impact,” Washington said.

“Whatever it may be, if that’s one game, if that’s helping other teammates out, I just want to be an impact in the first year, to me (that’s) fine.”

Washington juggles a lot of roles on the football field, but keeps it simple off of it

Darnell Washington’s game may be giant, but it’s a simple M.O. for the Big 0:

Block, catch, run, with the occasional hurdle.

In his interviews with NFL franchises, there isn’t much else to analyze when it comes to off-the-field distractions.

Washington is a family man, and that is clearly his biggest motivation.

“My biggest questions are like, family. I got two daughters. That’s my biggest question,” Washington said.

“What kind of learner I am. I feel like my questions are pretty much easy to answer. I don’t really do much myself outside of football. No really tough questions.”

Darnell Washington may not be the first tight end picked in this year’s NFL Draft. Notre Dame‘s Michael Mayer seems to be the odds-on favorite to beat Washington out.

All the more reason and motivation for this Dawg to prove just how much ‘want-to’ he has in that massive frame.
