Dawgs in the Pros: Lorenzo Carter signs with Atlanta Falcons
Former Georgia pass rusher Lorenzo Carter is back in the Peach State. After four years with the New York Giants, Carter is signing a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
Carter, a member of Georgia’s 2017 SEC Championship-winning squad, played in 14 games last season for the Giants. He totaled 5.0 sacks, all of which came in the final four games of the season. That was a career-high for him on top of his first career interception and a career-high total for tackles (50). Since being drafted by the Giants in 2018, Carter’s total tackle number has increased each season with the exception of 2020 when he played in just five games due to injury. However, he was on pace once again top his career-high with a full season.

At Georgia, Carter was dominant in his senior season. The Norcross, Ga. native earned Second-Team All-SEC according to both the Associated Press and coaches while being named a Fourth-Team All-American by Phil Steele. Carter posted a career-high 10 tackles in the Bulldogs’ College Football Playoff semifinal win over Oklahoma, however his biggest play came on a blocked field goal in the second overtime period that allowed Georgia to win on the next possession. Carter started 10 games that season and played in all 15, leading the team in tackles in a win versus Florida and being named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after forcing two fumbles and recovering two fumbles against Notre Dame.
