Derion Kendrick heading to Los Angeles Rams in 2022 NFL Draft
Georgia football cornerback Derion Kendrick is heading to Los Angeles Rams with the No. 212 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Kendrick is a native of Rock Hill, SC and a product of South Pointe High School. He emerged as a five-star in the Class of 2018. Kendrick was also the nation’s No. 3-ranked defensive back. He played in 49 career games and snagged seven interceptions on 14 passes defended. Kendrick also notched 104 total tackles, recovered two fumbles, and scored two touchdowns on turnovers.
Following an arrest for unlawful gun and marijuana possession, Kendrick transferred to Georgia from Clemson before the 2021 season. A pre-trial intervention program helped him expunge those charges.
In 2021, Derion Kendrick started all 15 games as a Bulldogs cornerback
Kendrick’s career highlight came in the Orange Bowl, when he earned Defensive MVP honors. Michigan threw two interceptions to Kendrick in the Dawgs’ CFP Semifinal victory. Additionally, he recorded five tackles against the Wolverines. Kendrick led all Georgia defenders with four interceptions during his lone season in Athens. The Kentucky game proved to be his brightest SEC contest. Kendrick finished with seven total tackles and two pass breakups in Georgia’s win Between the Hedges.
Coming in at 6-foot-0 and 194 pounds at the NFL Combine, Kendrick received a 5.95 prospect grade according to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats. That put him in the category of “average backup or special-teamer” and as the No. 94 player in the draft.

“He set a great example for our other players. He came from a really good program, he came from where they play really good defense, he fit right in with our guys, and he’s been a tremendous leader. And I’m really proud of everything he’s gotten — a lot of the accolades and the things he deserves tonight in the form of interceptions,” Kirby Smart said after the Orange Bowl. “He hasn’t gotten those awards in the past, but he’s played really well.””
Derion Kendrick becomes the NFL Draft record-tying 14th Bulldog off the board, joining former teammates Travon Walker (Jaguars), Jordan Davis (Philadelphia Eagles), Quay Walker (Green Bay Packers), Devonte Wyatt (Green Bay Packers), Lewis Cine (Minnesota Vikings), George Pickens (Pittsburgh Steelers), James Cook (Buffalo Bills), Nakobe Dean (Phildelphia Eagles), Channing Tindall (Miami Dolphins), Zamir White (Las Vegas Raiders), Jake Camarda (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Justin Shaffer (Atlanta Falcons) and Jamaree Salyer (Los Angeles Chargers.)
