Several names have been tossed around as potential transfer options for the Georgia Bulldogs, and while there have been visits discussed, we haven’t seen much in the way of offers being put out to players in the portal. That changed on Wednesday evening, as the the Dawgs extended an offer to Charlotte transfer Deshawn Purdie.

Purdie is a 6-foot-4, 220 pound rising sophomore who came to Charlotte by way of Baltimore, Maryland’s Milford Mill Academy.

A former three-star prospect ranked as the nation’s No. 1669 overall player in the country per the On3 Industry Ranking, Purdie passed for 1802 yards in his freshman campaign with the 49ers. He also posted 10 passing touchdowns and 6 interceptions, as well as a 50-percent completion percentage over the year. Against Florida Atlantic, he threw for a season high 396 yards and three touchdowns.

The Dawgs jumped into the mix soon after the Florida Gators, who are working on bringing Purdie in for an official visit this week per GatorsOnline’s Corey Bender.

As of this writing, it is unclear if Georgia will be in line for an official visit from Deshawn Purdie.

The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.

The database is a normal database, sortable by a variety of topics, including (of course) sport and name. A player’s individual entry includes basic details such as contact info, whether the player was on scholarship and whether the player is transferring as a graduate student.

A player can ask that a “do not contact” tag be placed on the report. In those instances, the players don’t want to be contacted by schools unless they’ve initiated the communication.

The window for FBS players to enter the portal opens Dec. 9 and closes on Dec. 28.
