Georgia gets commitment from transfer WR Dominic Lovett
Georgia has gotten a second big-time wideout from the NCAA’s Student-Athlete transfer portal. Dominic Lovett, who spent the past two seasons at Missouri, will be continuing his career with UGA. He made the announcement via twitter.
He’s the second transfer wide receiver to be announced by the Bulldogs on Thursday, joining former Mississippi State pass catcher Rara Thomas. Georgia beat out the likes of USC, LSU, and Alabama for the No. 8 player in On3’s Transfer Portal rankings.
Lovett was Missouri’s leading receiver in 2022, hauling in 56 passes for 846 yards and three scores. He ranks No. 3 in the SEC in receiving yards per game and No. 7 in catches per game.
As a freshman in 2021, Lovett caught 26 passes for 173 yards and ran the ball four times for 40 yards and a touchdown. He is also a former four-star prospect per the industry-generated, equally weighted On3 Consensus.
Listed at 5-foot-10 190 pounds, Lovett was the nation’s No. 290 overall prospect and No. 42 wide receiver in the 2021 class per the consensus. A product of East St. Louis High School, he was the No. 3 player in Illinois.
UGA coaches are quite familiar with Lovett after this past season’s game. He entered the game as the Tiger’s leading receiver and hit Georgia for 84 yards on six catches with most of that coming in the first half. The Bulldogs needed a fourth-quarter rally to prevent the upset in Columbia.

The Bulldogs aren’t expected to lose many players at the receiver position at season’s and they have four committed in the 2023 class. Looking at that information, one might wonder why Kirby Smart and company are going after the rising junior.
The reasoning lies on the UGA practice field this season. Georgia, at times, barely had enough healthy scholarship receivers to practice. When Arian Smith and AD Mitchell were recovering from ankle injures and other receivers like Ladd McConkey dinged up throughout the week but finding a way to play on Saturday, Bryan McClendon’s group was quite thin.
That’s why the Bulldogs targeted Lovett and Thomas and other pass catchers out of the transfer portal. They’re searching for guys who are ready to play right away and proven playmakers who can increase the competition and, as a result, the level of play at receiver.
Both Lovett and Thomas are expected to join the program in January where they’ll start classes, go through winter workouts, and participate in spring drills. They’ll also get a chance to see their new team in action in roughly 10 days. That’s when the Bulldogs will play Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.
