Dylan Raiola previews Georgia visit with Chad Simmons
Georgia has five-star plus+ quarterback Dylan Raiola on campus this weekend, but before he arrived he spoke with On3 Director of Scouting Chad Simmons about what he was looking to gain out of the trip to Athens. Raiola’s been to campus before and is in constant contact with the coaches, but getting back and seeing people in person, plus how the Bulldogs run a practice going through their third session of spring ball on Saturday, it’s a real opportunity to leave a lasting impression on the nation’s top player in 2024.
“Definitely getting back to see the coaches, Coach Bobo obviously being a new offensive coordinator there and at the helm of the Georgia offense, I want to get a feel for him, what he does, the offensive staff,” Raiola told Simmons. “Seeing the coaches, reassuring those relationships, I think it’s been over a year since I’ve been to Athens. I’m also excited, someone near and dear to my heart Chandler LeCroy, she won’t be there but she’ll be there in spirit. Definitely going to miss her, but that’s where she left her legacy. I look forward to getting back.”
Raiola was on hand to see Georgia win its second straight National Championship in Los Angeles in January. He came away impressed by the offensive attack of Todd Monken, but with Mike Bobo now calling plays, it’ll be important that those two build a connection. Good news for Georgia is though, Raiola says he and Bobo are talking every day.
Currently without a timeline to make a decision, Raiola says he’s keeping an open mind through the process. He committed to Ohio State last May. He backed off of that commitment in December. Both before his initial Buckeye commitment, during that time and since backing off, Georgia has been a mainstay for Raiola.

“You mentioned it, them being first to see something in me, that obviously meant a lot. I think you start top down with Coach Smart and his leadership and what he does for his program. They’re the two-time champs, and I want to go see what the two-time champs practice like, how they operate and do things from the football side,” Raiola said as he explained why it was Georgia has been in the running all along. “Obviously getting back to see the academics, that’s important to me, seeing the dorm life and really seeing all around Athens, Georgia.”
Raiola is the No. 1 overall player in the Class of 2024 according to the On3 Industry Ranking, holding that title for three out of the four metrics that make up the composite ranking. Georgia ranks third according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine behind USC (46.7%) and Nebraska (27.6%) at 18.5%. He has already visited both USC and Nebraska, where his father played and uncle is a coach, this year.
