ESPN College GameDay coming to Athens for Georgia-Tennessee
ESPN’s College GameDay is going to be coming to Athens, Georgia next Saturday for a major matchup between the now two-loss Bulldogs and visiting Tennessee Volunteers – likely to be a top-5 team in the College Football Playoff rankings with just one loss to their name.
It’s a third time this season Georgia has been part of the network’s featured game of the week. UGA owns a 1-1 record in those games – at Alabama (41-34 L) and at Texas (30-15 W). Overall, its Georgia’s 39th all-time appearance on the show, sixth-most of any school, but it hasn’t always been a blessing for the Bulldogs coming in with a record below .500 at 18-20.

Focus within the football building in Athens won’t be on the outside distraction of a pregame show coming to town though. Kirby Smart’s squad has its back against the wall after a loss on Saturday at the hands of Ole Miss in Oxford. A second loss doesn’t end the Bulldogs’ chances at making the College Football Playoffs in the new 12-team era, but there’s certainly now no room for error.

“It’s on to the next. I mean, welcome to the SEC, baby,” Smart told reporters after the 28-10 loss. “I mean, I said when the season started that it was going to be the toughest schedule we’ve ever had in the SEC with the addition of the Texas game on top of all the others we had to play. It’s extremely tough. It’s difficult. I mean, the outlook of going to those four road games, the Kentucky, the Texas, the Alabama, and this one, we knew it was going to be really tough. And as you go through the season you get injuries. I mean, they’ve got injuries too. Everybody’s got injuries. It just makes it tough. It’s tough, but you know what, our future’s in front of us. We’ve got a big game next week. We’ve got to go out, and we’ve got to find a way to execute at a higher level.”
Kickoff time for Georgia-Tennessee is set for 7:30 p.m. on ABC. UGA was listed as an early 8.5-point favorite over the the Volunteers, however, given the results of the weekend, that line is expected to change some.
