Rara Thomas won’t be returning to Georgia in 2025 but it appears he might have a chance to play College Football again. After being arrested on July 26 on two counts of batter (family violence) and one felony count of cruelty to children, Thomas’ legal situation has been resolved.

“We were able to resolve Rara Thomas’ case in Athens-Clarke County today,” Thomas’ attorney, Kim Stephens told DawgsHQ on Tuesday. “All felony and family violence charges were dismissed. Mr. Thomas entered an Alford plea which allowed him to end this case without admitting any criminal wrongdoing to two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Mr. Thomas was sentenced to 24 months of probation under Georgia’s First Offender Act so he does not have any conviction in this case.

“I am happy that we were able to obtain this very favorable result for RaRa and look forward to seeing the great things Mr. Thomas does personally and professionally in the future.”

A native of Eufaula, Ala., Thomas was headed into his second season at Georgia. He spent his first two seasons at Mississippi State before transferring to Georgia for the 2023 season. Thomas, who is currently in the transfer portal, entered the transfer portal in December of 2022 and was courted by the likes of Auburn, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, among others, before choosing Georgia to continue his football future.

It wasn’t long after he got to the Classic City that he experienced his first run in with the law and there are similarities in the details. Less than a month after enrolling, the wideout was arrested at a similar time of day for a misdemeanor count of family violence and a felony account of false imprisonment. Each of those charges were soon dropped as Thomas entered a pretrial diversion program and was required complete anger management and community service.

Thomas played the 2023 season at Georgia where he struggled at times to learn the offense but flashed the ability to create big plays. He caught 23 passes for 383 yards and a touchdown on the year. Thomas had three catches for 30 or more yards and two of 40-plus. He also missed the final three games of the season with a broken foot, including Georgia’s only loss of the season to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.
