REPORT: Fran Brown 'finalizing' deal to become new Syracuse head coach
It appears as if Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown is on the verge of becoming a Power 5 head coach. According to a report from Brent Axe of Syracuse.com, Brown and Syracuse are finalizing a deal that will make him the Orange’s next head coach.
“Syracuse is finalizing a deal to make Fran Brown its next head football coach, according to two sources with knowledge of the agreement,” Axe tweeted early Tuesday morning. “A formal announcement could come as soon as Tuesday.”
Brown was hired by Kirby Smart after the 2021 season when Jahmile Addae left to become the defensive backs coach at Miami. Since that hire the Bulldogs have gone a perfect 27-0 and won the 2022 National Championship with a 15-0 record.
A pair of his defensive backs (Kelee Ringo and Christopher Smith) were drafted this past spring while more like Kamari Lassiter are likely to hear their names called next April. Georgia ranks No. 12 in the NCAA and first in the SEC for pass defense this season, allowing just 176.5 yards per game through the air. Furthermore, the Bulldogs are tied for first in the conference with 12 interceptions.
