The Georgia Bulldogs seem to keep a a surprise name up their sleeve each and every Signing Day, and today is no different. Georgia flipped the commitment of On3 three-star safety Daniel Okonkwo, who was committed to Northern Illinois entering the signing period.

A 6-foot 190 pound defensive back from Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Ga., Okonkwo had been committed to Northern Illinois since October. Last minute pressing from the in-state team managed to prove too much for the Huskies to hold on.

Georgia has been searching for defensive back help throughout this cycle and is expected to land four-star cornerback Jontae Gilbert, four-star cornerback Dominick Kelly, four-star safety/star Jaylan Morgan, three-star safety/star Rasean Dinkins, and four-star expected safety Todd Robinson to that end in the Class of 2025.

But after the loss of five-star cornerback Shamari Earls to Michigan in early November, the writing on the wall was clear for the Bulldogs that another body was needed in the secondary.

While Okonkwo may not have that same ranking or perception throughout the industry, he adds much needed depth at a key position for the Bulldogs.

Daniel Okonkwo ranks as the No. 58 overall safety prospect in the On3 Rankings.

Okonkwo was just the latest piece in the class, but the Bulldogs added plenty of talent throughout the day to go along with him.

In addition to the aforementioned defensive back class, Georgia secured signatures from the likes of No. 1 defensive lineman Elijah Griffin, No. 1 inside linebacker Zayden Walker, No. 1 tight end Elyiss Williams, and No. 1 EDGE Isaiah Gibson on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs currently sit as the No. 4 class in the rankings, with only Texas, Oregon, and Alabama ahead of them.

That may well change in the coming days, however, as Georgia is still considered the odds-on favorite for five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry, the No. 9 prospect in entire country. Texas, Alabama, and Auburn continue to pitch him heavily, as well.
